The Buffalo’s Revenge, and the Elephant’s Reply

October 7, 2006 · Leave a Comment

The Buffalo, in a clumsy attempt to revenge himself for the third Tavli deafeat, turned to the written word (so the Weaver says) to outwit his Elephantine opponent. This is his Limerick of Mass Derision:

A man from the isle of Scunthorpe
Tried jumping right over a rope
He fell on his face
He’d misjudged the pace
Said man: There’s still lots of hope.

The Elephant Queen, as befits her dignified stature, replied with this elegant riposte:

Your poetry is so impressive
It could be described as expressive.
That word-smithing gene
Has developed, I seen
But your tavli gene’s clearly recessive.
